I start to write about ssh tunnels and exporting your display until I saw that you not only what to use windows, but a windows edit as well. That being said you really need to 'share' out the directory with samba or nfs and then you can access it just like a drive on your windoz box. Be careful of <cr>, line feeds, etc when using a windows edit on a unix file.On Jun 29, 2011 3:41 PM,

I want to be able to edit text files with a GUIeditor via ssh or via sftp. I can edit with ssh with "$sudo nanofilename" only. It's driving me crazy. I can't stand nano, vi, emacs orany terminal based editor. I need to be root to edit these files in/var/www. I am using Ubuntu server for the server. I want to use aneditor with windows like Geany or anything like it. I only have enoughpermission in my /home to use a GUI editor else I need to sudo.I was thinking of a script to send a copy of a file over to my /homethen use Filezilla, then a script to sudo cp and overwrite it back to/var/www. Still a pain. Is there any way in my situation to be able touse a GUI editor and not have to use a terminal editor?I may not of explained it clearly, sorry...also I have to sit an look atthese files for long periods - for me a terminal editor I'm notproductive on.Thanks,Lee G.---------------------------------------------------PLUG-discuss mailing list -
