Actually, Thunderbird isn't too bad using Orca and gnome in Linux.
It's little spots like this and I don't even think it's got to do
anything with accessibility in this case. I'm just pretty well
spoiled by mutt but thunderbird integrates better with Firefox.
I'm not sure what specific packages are out there in linux for say,
financial applications but I know there are several areas where
software is simply lacking in linux but windows users claim an
abundent choice. A generic nomination might be for some financial
application that needs some help. The only programs I even know of
are GNU Cash, and ledger. Ledger is a command line based thing withch
is pretty cool if you have a good handle on shell scripting. GNU Cash
sounds promising too but I could not work the wxwidget toolkit due to
a11y problems with wxwidgets.
Another focus on project out-reach might be to merely help make linux
more attractive to less-technical users by helping to increase the
inventory of available applications. If this inventory is actually
bigger than I think, then maybe I'm the ignorant one here <smile>.

Unfortunately, the pain has been bad enough that I haven't really done anything about writing up the presentation for the march west side meeting (yet). I was thinking of a brief introduction to accessibility for the blind in Linux and show off VINUX on a PPC G3 powerbook. I still have a few things to complete on the unit before presentation, but they should be done and ready to go.

Unfortunately, the javascript support is very poor at this time and would probably require a major facelift to that support to include DOM support. I only mention it because a surprisingly large number of people still use it and seem to sware by it but I personally find the javascript support so poor that I go and use Firefox instead. But it might be an interesting project to get involved with.
