Even with the SSD, it was still cheaper than that one at NewEgg. I
upgraded that machine to the SSD, it came with your choice of several
hard drives. I even upgraded the processor to an i7 extreme, instead of
the standard processor you had configured. My point though is still
valid. System76 is an excellent builder of LINUX based computers. The
support Ubuntu Linux, and only Ubuntu Linux. They never threatened
anybody with lack of support for putting Linux on their computers. They
are a top level partner with Canonical. And these are not crap
machines, like so many Linux laptops are.

I have three laptops. An old, old Sony Viao, that is running for
reasons I still don't understand, the SOB just won't die (won't run
well, but won't die either, like a wounded animal that just suffers
along). My netbook, which is a System76 Starling version 1, and the
machine my company bought for me, a System76 Lemur. That Lemur is damn
thin, lightweight, and runs an i3 processor (hyper-threaded dual core,
so Linux calls it a quad). When the next version of Ubuntu is released,
System76 has already tested it against that release. Drivers are
already prepared. And upgrade is smooth and simple. One of the great
bitches and complaints about Linux, and one of the reasons many people
stick with Windows is the "just works" mentality. They say, Linux is
not like that, you have to futz with it too much to make it work
right... Wrong! Stop buying from HP, Dell, and Sony. Instead, buy from
a national provider of LINUX based laptops, designed and supported to
run LINUX... out the front door, like a respected customer should be.

If you think System76 is some fly-by-night, local builder, you have
obviously never seen one. They are the nation's larger seller of Linux
based laptops. Based in Denver, Co (that's where I live), built in
California. American made, American supported, and one of the most
reliable laptops I have ever owned. That's right, I am not only
pitching the product, I use the product.
