Subject: Need Suggestions on Improving WifI Reception
I make a lot of WiFi calls from my Android phone since they do not count
against my minutes (I have an older grandfathered plan). My access point is
about 8' from where I sit through an open doorway. The reception is
terrible. I have played with the antennas but no improvement. When I call I
have to move to the same room as the access point. The hardware is a Linksys
WRT54G. The wiring cupboard is right above my head, so I could move it
there, but then the rest of the office will not be able to use the Wifi.

1. Do I need a better access point? If so, what brand/model?
Note: due to T-Mobile's poor wifi calling software design.....don't get me
started......the access point cannot block any ports - it has to be wide
open except for WPA with a shared key and MAC address filtering. The Linksys
has a built in router as well, but I had to disable it to be able to connect
to T-Mobile's network for wifi calls.

2. Is there some sort of repeater that I can use to increase signal strength
where I sit? Not too much, I don't want to start glowing in the dark or cook
my lunch on my desk! ;-)

3. Any other suggestions for making wifi available to everyone?

Thanks!

Mark
