I do not know the answer you are looking for. I DO know that I recently
installed Ubuntu 10.10 on someones laptop. When we plugged in the USB 3G
modem from Verizon, it was recognized. A popup asked what carrier and after
we selected Verizon we had only to answer a couple of questions for it to
work. I did not do any checking about how it might handle power saving in a
battery mode.
