It sounds like the task manager is gone. This is an applet that runs on the
task bar itself which lists open windows. If this is KDE 4 you will need to
add the Task Manager applet to the panel. If this is KDE 3 you will need to do
somethign similar, though I've been using KDE 4 for so long now I forget the
steps to add it back in KDE 3. Right click the panel and select add
"something" and you should get a list of things. Find task manager or task
panel. Sorry for the lack of information, but I hope this helps.
