sun has been in the process of auditing the code in java and turning it
into open source which is what openjdk is...the sun open source version.
I haven't tried to run java applets from within a web browser like
Firefox but my understanding is that it will work if you install the
openjdk plugin, at least on Fedora 10 or above which on Fedora is a
separate installation package.
