Subject: Need your participation in an effort to support CIVILITY in the election
Hello friends.
As some of you already know, I made a website in 2004 designed to peaceably confront a counter-productive trend in our politics called VigilforCivility.com. It got a lot of attention during a very busy news cycle then and I believe the participants made a positive difference. On Friday after a lot of deliberation and counsel, I decided to bring it back, announcing a Vigil to launch on Wednesday for the final week before the election.
The press release below is about to hit the wires, and I want you all to not only know about it first, but to consider being a contributor either as an advisor, blog author, or media partner.
This effort is a raw grassroots tool to promote civility in the election and therefore has ZERO affiliations to be concerned about, so if you were to announce support for it on-air, online or in emails, etc. I guarantee it will boost your standing as a responsible peacemaker amidst the increasing rancor, no matter how partisan you may be. I really need more voices to shape it anyway, as it is not my goal to control all the content here.
Please check it out, give me your feedback on where you want your name to show up, and we'll make it happen.
Thanks,
Andrew

Vigil for Civility Grassroots Movement Rises Again to Counter Growing Pessimism among Electorate by Launching a Nationwide Election Week Vigil
Vancouver WA (PRWEB) October 27, 2008 -- In response to polls showing many Americans fear massive voter fraud, and mounting partisan hostilities in the election, one group is spearheading an effort to organize an emergency Vigil for Civility. Organizers are asking American's to empower themselves and others by standing together against political cynicism with acts of civil vigilance including prayer, hunger strikes, and organized gatherings for civility.
The Vigil for Civility website --
http://VigilForCivility.com -- carefully avoids both religious and political partisan posturing as it seeks to bring together voters who are worried that voter fraud and other misconduct will cause critical harm to national confidence, spark violence, and/or throw this election into the courts.
This project is the brainchild of entrepreneur and missionary Andrew Deal, who conceived the idea and the website in 2004. Again in 2008, Deal feels this election carries the same urgency for America's citizens to take up and publicly declare their personal act of vigilance. The website has been re-designed for this year, easily enabling people to register their AOV (Act of Vigilance) through a single form, and to post events and cross-message with other participants. Additionally, audio comments are posted through a call-in Talkback messaging center. "Our goal is empower people to speak their mind through various means, but with the same goal of encouraging a fair, civil debate on the issues, while repudiating underhanded and illegal tactics. The emphasis is on encouraging fasting (hunger striking) and personal spiritual discipline (prayer)," said Deal.
With growing reports and accusations of vandalism, fraud, intimidation and legal disputes, VigilForCivility.com could become the virtual meeting place for all those not content to sit by the sidelines and watch democracy take a beating.
Deal continued, "This site represents an opportunity for both candidates and partisans to demonstrate their pre-eminent belief in civility versus a 'win at all costs' mentality. The members here believe that political ambition and partisanship can be vigorous and even aggressive without sliding into areas of illegal activity, misrepresentation and fraud."
