I am not trying to start a flame war....but the problem may not be Cox in
this situation. I have had my share of issues with Cox over the years, but
their customer service in my area has improved recently.
From your description, it sounds as if your wireless signal cannot reach
downstairs. Cox has nothing to do with that. I had the same problem in my
house - I lost the signal when moving to one end of the house from the
other. I ran a CAT 6 cable from the modem at one end of the house to the
other end of the house and set up a second wireless nework. Now I can walk
anywhere in the house and not loose signal strength because I bounce from
one network to the other as needed. Works for my cell phone, too.
I think you will have a faster connection with Cox than DSL with someone
else.
Just my 2 cents.
