Yep. Look at http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/LVM-HOWTO/extendlv.html

The caveat is that you need to have patched your kernel with the
ext2online patch, which I believe is fairly common nowadays. Earlier
wasn't the case, which was one reason why on some of my old machines
(I'm talking 4+ years) they're using reiserfs.
