I got 90%, but of course you gave me the Sept 1991 answer (I knew it was
in the fall of 1991, but didn't remember the month).

Your answer: *b. August, 1991*
Incorrect. Correct answer is *d. September, 1991

Maybe the quiz was wrong. I chose August as well. I suspect many of
us knew the 1991 but were just unsure of the month.

That said I must bow to you all as I only got 60 and I even already
have a beard.

100%

My birthday is in September, it was kind of a personal birthday present
between me and Linus... lol

I got my first computer for my birthday in September, and shortly after I had
become discusted with windows 3.1 and dos 5, (about 10 minutes) I began to
wonder, because at school we had apples, so there was obviously something
other than windows out there!

Yahoo had a section in their catalogue about software development/operating
systems/linux

I jumped and began poking around. I didn't get real involved until slackware
came out in 93.

I'm trying to create a cpio image to use during boot. I have one already, but
I am editing a script, then re-creating the image. It seems after so many
modifications I have to go back to an older image and start modifying that
one. It is really REALLY starting to irritate me!

Now, I am using a new kernel and it keeps saying

Failed to execute /init
Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.

My isolinux.cfg says

append initrd=initrd.img vga=788

and I have verified the image is in place, as I have just created it.
The image is about 25 MB, but I have 2GB of ram, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Any ideas?

I did read it an like it. My favorite story is about the open sourcing
of Netscape and the "coffee shop decisions" aspect of the project. I
use that story constantly when trying to explain open source project
management to them.

I have "Linux Shell Scripting with Bash" by Ken O. Burtch and "Wicked Cool

scripts then I would recommend the later one, but I have found both to be
useful.

it does not play in full screen. Even if I press f for full screen,
it plays the movie only in the center portion of the screen.
I also tried mplayer -vo xv movie.avi .. It plays in full screen,
but dies after sometime saying my system is too slow. I guess is
has some thing to do with the video cards.. is there a fix ?

Time to think about something that's non-beta and has a better upgrade path.

What's it say about video when you start it from the command line? How fast
is the CPU? mplayer with XV worked OK for me with a PII450 and an r128 video
card, but that was years and years ago.

Multiple video cards? What are their chipsets, and which X modules are you
using for them? That's "/sbin/lspci | grep VGA" and "grep
Driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf" if you don't know the answers to those questions.
Are you running in Xinerama or with separate Screens?

AZCentral.com is currently looking for a qualified, talented person to
fill a developer/sysadmin position.

The official job description is broad, but we're basically looking for
people with a combination of PHP, Apache, MySQL, and Linux knowledge.
Experience with open-source load balancing and high-availability
technologies like LVS/ldirectord, heartbeat, and drbd is a plus. We're
not necessarily looking for computer science majors. Intelligence,
creativity, and the ability to play well with others is more
important. AZCentral.com has been experiencing huge growth for the
past several years, and this shows no signs of slowing down. We need
talented people to help us keep up with the list of projects.

We offer a positive work environment in downtown Phoenix in which
you'll cooperate and collaborate with a team of talented developers on
a variety of projects.
