Actually,
I have done that (with any version of M$ OS you can think of (including
vista)). its rather easy to do.

the caveats:
1. need a potload of ram (>=1GB to start)
2. need large HD to house images
3. cpu speed >1.5 Ghz
4. may need (optional) 64 bit CPU dual core.

here is what I use:

AMD AM2 64 Bit Dual Core
NF4U Nvidia Based Motherboard (BIOSTAR)
1 GB ddr2 800 Mhz ram
740 GB (1 500 GB sata II drive, 1 160 GB IDE HD, 1 80 GB IDE HD <as />)
kubunto fiesty_fawn w/multimedia packages
vmware-server 1.0.3
and some accessories
this is my primary workstation and cost me less than $600.00 to build
