How about using the little computer icon next to the k menu that has a
menu including 'remote places' and HOme directory? Then you choose add
a network folder and away you go with gui promptness.

Am I missing something? I find it difficult to get used to Places in
gnome but that doesn't make it harder than using Kde. just different.
