Ubuntu Studio failure

UbuntuStudio 7.04 will not complete a bootup immediately upon install
completion. The bootup shows its special splash screen and hides all the
system messages (GAWD I hate that). Anyway, when the splash screen
disappears, the screen flashes with some patterns a few times and then goes
to a black screen and nothing ever shows again.

I used a Knoppix to look at a few things. I could not see anything wrong in
the xorg.conf file (but when I tried in studio's recover mode to
dpkg-reconfigure xserver, there was an indication it was not installed). I
looked at studio's logs (from Knoppix) to try to determine what the problem
was. Obviously the release has a configuration problem but perhaps not the
reason for my failure.

Any ideas?
