The motherboard is not the same make and model as the old one. But, I
am not to the point where the kernel is booted. I have not allowed the
computer to start-up any further than the GRUB (bootloader) menu so the
kernel is not yet loaded.

Your point is well taken and I may have to run the repair once I get
past this current issue, whatever it is.

BTW, I cannot get into the BIOS setup screen since the keyboard is
ignored. I will keep the group informed of what happens.
