Ubuntu by default only installs packages from it's main repository.
Universe is a repository of packages maintained by the Ubuntu community.
Multiverse is also community maintained, but includes non-Free Software.

Kubuntu defaults to KDE. You can install KDE onto Ubuntu and get the same
thing.
You just need an .el to run Firefox from within emacs :).
