Where to install abiword?

.
Someone sent me a .wps file and I can't open it with open office.
So, searching the net, I found that abiword is supposed to open it.
But when I downloaded abiword, there is no instructions on where
and/or how to install it.

Should I create a subdirectory named abiword in /opt or some
other place? to install it?
