It's already swapping to disk. I have not run anything beyond phpinfo() . MySql is running but I have run no SQL
Booting into gnome - top reports 7M RAM free and 52M swap used.
Gnome on top of xubuntu & LAMP added seems a little slower than Xfce, but not much even with FireFox running.
Changing to Xfce - top reports swap used 52M & 38M of Free RAM.
It still is much faster than the OEM version of xp-home. By Far! And more fun :)

then whatever distro you choose it will be painfully slow if (when) you
start swapping to disk.
