Ok there is a gui tool ... both lights are blinking on the d-link pcmcia card. Looks like everything updated in /etc/network/interfaces and when I issue the iwconfig command.

I can ping the gateway from another computer but not my laptop .. I took down some notes on how it was configured in windows XP and I noted data encription wep enabled but do not find anything like that in the GUI tool...
Any suggestions much appreciated.
