Sorry if this reply doesn't make any sense, It's my first time so be gentle. I'm responding to the flash player issue. Right now I'm using Ubuntu with firefox2. In order to get my flash to work, I had to install it. Here is what I did:

wget http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz

tar -xzf install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz

sudo cp install_flash_player_9_linux/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/

When I restart it all works. It looks like you need to know where your browser plugins are. For me with a standard install its under /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins which is probably the directory that it asks for when you run the install script.
