I'm not going to comment on that and that is entirely beside the point.
Microsoft is fully aware of the ramifications of distributing software
in conjunction with or statically links to GPL software. No association
with Novell changes that.
It's apparent that Microsoft wants to create the illusion that
people/companies should be fearful of using Linux that may violate one
or more of their patents. The emperor has no clothes. They will lose
more by suing than any other course of action.
They didn't get to where they are today because they are stupid. Classic
FUD - divide and conquer, threaten with a big stick. Desperate acts from
a desperate company. They are in danger of losing massive percentages of
desktops to Linux in the next year...their cash cows of Windows XP and
Microsoft Office to Vista resistance and OpenOffice.org The decline
begins in 2008.
