When I saw thi post, I thought of Brian Beattie
(there appear to be multiple persons with that name)
(but I am thinking of, the one:)
who worked with Brendan Eagan [and me] at Sperry Flight Systems
in the mid 1980s.
I did a search, and the guy who wrote this:
    http://lkml.org/lkml/2003/11/2/39
may not be the same guy, but he might be. (or they might know each
other...).
(you can of course search on your own, but)
some of the other hits included:
   http://www-mice.cs.ucl.ac.uk/multimedia/misc/tcp_ip/8812.mm.www/0234.html
   http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/linux/linux-kernel/2002-10/1167.html
the above is more recent, and really seems to "sound"...
...like, the way I remember him talking (/writing)

http://stuff.mit.edu/afs/athena/reference/net-directory/maps/uucp.bak/u.usa.va.3
   http://uwsg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0409.0/1015.html
this one is even MORE recent...
I finally decided to follow that link to " www.beattie-home.net"; when I
got there,
there was a resume, and it now appears that, this is not the same person.
(but ,they might know each other...).
see also (a resume from 1992:)

http://groups.google.co.uk/group/misc.jobs.resumes/browse_thread/thread/48cd7be02de7e0ff/09fcce45ef24e8bd#09fcce45ef24e8bd
..maybe some of this will help.
Another search, gave:

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%2B%22brendan+eagan%22+%2Balpha+%2Bvms+&hl=en&lr=&sa=X&oi=groups&ct=title
...which also might help. (If you can contact Brendan, he might still know
where [the other] Brian B. is.)
(or, he might know the answer!)
