OK, I finally got time to look around there and found all the players
lacking in some way or another.
Here are the features I've come up with. Any desirable features I've
forgotten?
Media Player desires
minimum requirements:
. plays ogg out of the box
. USB 2.0
. upload/download/update content and playlists via GNU/Linux
. fw upgrade via GNU/Linux
. ogg tag support
. flash memory storage
good to have:
. works with bluetooth stereo headset
. external memory card
. 4GB+ external memory card support
. records ogg and/or flac
. voice recorder
. plays flac
. bluetooth networking
. FM radio receiever
. FM radio transmitter
. can be used for data storage
. common batteries, such as AA
. charges via USB
. at least 1 GB internal storage
might be cool:
. can play open format video
. photo album
. support album covers/artwork
dream items:
. interchangeable displays, e.g. small display for hazardous conditions,
large one for video playback
. exports video
. has audio input for playing/recording from analog devices
. has cron for recording radio
Thus far my Neuros is still looking like the best option.
