Subject: Re: multiple default routes workaround
I knew I'd seen something for this before.
There's support in the kernel (since 2.4.1) for setting up two interfaces in a failover configuration, which I expect would be somewhat easier to manage (once it's all set up, which is far from simple) than the provided script (although the script is a nice bit of work, provides a nice simple solution when bonding is overkill, and has use beyond managing interface pairs).
The first link I found for it is (http://www.linux-corner.info/bonding.html) which is a HOW-TO for setting up a pair of interfaces with automatic failover for Mandrake.
This second link is a more detailed wikipedia-style article from the OSDL site (http://linux-net.osdl.org/index.php/Bonding).

There's lots more information, but the above links should get you started if you're interested in setting up, say, a laptop to automatically switch between wired and wireless depending on what is available(connected) at any given time.
