I found that if I unplugged the card reader from the USB hub and then
re-plugged it _with the card inserted_,that it would be recognized.
Mine, a Camera-Mate card reader, shows four different removeable drives.
I try each drive until I find my pictures. This dodge may work with
your set-up. BTW, this works for me as user.
