What I understand right now is that your hylafax uses some hardware to send
faxes from a local network for example over a single hardware unit (fax
modem) over POTS.
Is there any hardware to share one POTS line between phone and fax, of
course not both services at the same time?
Has anyone experience with the apple solution? As far as I know you can plug
a mac directly to a POTS line dedicated to receive faxes.
I read something about fax over IP. Sounds interesting, especially in
combination with voIP.
The best case would be to get some service provider offering both. This
would at least reduce a dedicated POTS line for receiving faxes.
Any suggestions about that kind of service provider?
thanks,
tom

Fax over IP or fax over POTS? I have set up a hylafax server along with
samba (and firewall and gateway at one point) on the same linux box. Hylafax
runs a faxmodem over POTS on the same line (filtered) as the Qwest DSL
connection. Never had a problem, even with a fax appliance (separate machine
before hylafax). That's a business DSL account though.
