I would suggest creating a .bashrc file sourcing .bash_profile
Most of my systems use the .bashrc file, no longer a .bash_profile, but add
the source for legacy use.
cat << EOF > .bashrc
#!/bin/bash
source ~/.bash_profile
EOF
