well, that didn't help any.
oops! i killed the mouse. (fiddling with the USB cables)
restarted the computer to get it working again. in any case:
bmike1@1[bmike1]$ sudo addgroup bmike1 plugdev
The user `bmike1' is already a member of `plugdev'.
bmike1@1[bmike1]$
what if I were to add my user to group '*'?
