Tell us a little about how the Squid server gets it's DNS questions
answered? Is it also the DNS server? Is it asking an internal DNS server?
An external DNS server? An internal DNS server that forwards to an
external? You get the idea...

If you have a shell on the Squid server in question, what happens if you
type:

dig local.intranet.org
or
nslookup local.intranet.org
or
host local.intranet.org


Is it resolvable from the Squid server's shell?
