K3B is generating a "RAW" image file of the DVD (that's the .img file), there may also be another file along with it that contains the TOC(table of contents) for the disc. You need to set the image type to CUE/BIN or TOC (in the dropdown in the upper right corner, might also try auto-detect) in the dialog where you choose the image file, then K3B should be able to handle things from there.
