Open platform, protocols, and software. The slimserver is required to be
running on a server, but it is Perl, and will run on almost anything. One
slimserver can support many players. (Squeezebox, xmms, Winamp, etc.)

Will play almost any format, including raw PCM.

Lots of third-party modules and plugins. $199 if you don't need/want wireless.

I use the S/PDIF digital out into an separate DAC. The current model has
Burr-Brown DACs, so using an outboard DAC is much less of an issue.
