My strong recommendation is that the only thing that should be connected
directly to your DSL router is a firewall of some kind. If the DSL
router has more than one port, only use one to connect to the firewall.
Get another switch for the other side of the firewall and connecting
other computers.

My DSL connection gets probed and poked at every single day without
fail. That includes not just ineffective Windows exploits but remote
ssh login attempts and other attempts that would effect Linux. I would
never put a workstation with important information right on my DSL
connection.
