I have tried both on my laptop, a Fujitsu N3010 and had only mixed luck with
Suse (could not get ATI OpenGL to work, could not get the Broadcom WiFi
chipset to work, system standby was only functional after a lot of tweaking)
but otherwise, Suse is a very polished distro and works extremely well on
all the Desktops I have tried. Mandrake/Mandriva just worked. It is more
bleeding edge and therefore more prone to bugs, but that's what I like. It
took about 30 minutes to get Wireless-G working because of ndiswrapper and
the encryption setup. Works great. The ATI driver just works. Also, the KDE
3.4 available for the 2005 LE version, is noticably faster than the previous
versions.
I think either will work for you depending on the hardware configuration.
And most of those issues can be resolved.
