Hmmm, none of that works for me.
Highlighting (with the left-mouse button) does the "copy" automatically and
then middle-button (or roller, or on a two-button mouse simultaneously
clicking both buttons) does the paste. Depending on the application program,
mouse position when doing the paste is critical to getting the squirted text
into the right place.
Right-click, on the other hand, always brings up a menu on my systems and is
almost always application specific. Some of those menus mention "Copy" and I
guess it will copy what has been previously high-lighted, but that option
isn't very universal.
And finally, yeah, there are some programs that don't follow this copy/paste
convention, most notably those attempting to be like their Windows
counterparts (e.g., OpenOffice). Some of them even break the cut/paste
operation described above.
