A little tip: If you're ever in X and type Ctrl-Alt-F2 thru F6 to get
to a terminal, type Ctrl-Alt-F7 to go back to an X-window, i.e.
"graphic" environment.
You can set your runlevel to make X (graphic environment) the default
(usually level 4 or 5), or make the command prompt the default
(usually level 2 or 3, depending on your distro). I prefer logging in
from the command prompt, because if X is ever sporked or I want to
change my video driver I can log in properly and tinker with the
X-Configuration settings from a terminal.
I just login at a command prompt with my username and password, then
type "startx" (w/out quotes) to start the X environment (KDE, Gnome,
whatever.)
