Is it the host name or the domain (the domain is appended onto the end of
the host name)? You can set the domain on your dhcp server. The host name
should not change, only the domain which is served by the dhcp server.

Subject: Stupid Hostname Question?
Okay, I know this is probably gonna sound noobish, but I seriously can not
figure out how to fix it.
I have a p300 running as my file server, installed is FC3, which is running
great. The problem I am having is that everytime the DHCP gets ahold of the
connection I get this really funky garbled name for it in the DHCP list
(connected to a Linksys wireless router). I have tried setting the hostname
by calling it from the command prompt via root, but it always gets changed
by the DHCP to this bizarre text.
So guess the question is, how do I set the hostname so it stays even after
reboot?
Oh, and no X-win installed. This is running just vanilla FC3 from command
prompt.
