Eric "Shubes" nailed it:

I did that, and it came right up. Beautiful!

I'm very, very favorably impressed with CentOS 4.0.
It's easy to configure things the way I want them.

It failed to reach the network the first time, but
a visit to the system management tools fixed that.
It found my sound card right away. A very quick
dance with the setup GUI had my X config exactly
right and using my system's full capabilities, which
is the very first time I've had that with Linux!

Now I need to configure Thunderbird and Firefox to
share my Windows mailbox and bookmarks which are on
a fat32 volume, and I'll lose a lot of my reason to
switch back and forth.

(I tunnel into work using a Cisco VPN Client, and
then use XP Remote Desktop, almost as responsive
as being at my desk in the office ... I guess when
I am working I'll still have to use my XP setup.)

Thanks for the support and guidance.
There will be lots more questions coming. :-)
