There was a person who mentioned the alsa mixer. That may be the issue. open a
shell and type in alsamixer. Pay close attention to things like 3D Control
Depth and PCM settings. The 3D Control may be generating the Chipmunk sound.
I had an issue like that when I first loaded up Fedora, logged on as normal
user, switched to root user, then came back. For some odd reason, the volume
settings are system wide, not user specific. (From what I've seen.)
