xmms playing chipmunk sounds

I have a friend who installed SuSE 9.2 and all of his medai players are
playing mp3's back at high speed. I originally thought maybe a corrupt
library, but now I am unsure. He does have the box overclocked, but that
should not affect media playback or would it?
