Dunno about playing win32 programs. Check on WINE and products from
www.TransGaming.com and www.CodeWeavers.com for that.

As for distros for kids: debian has debian junior and debian edu as
sub-projects available through normal mechanism; Knoppix For Kids from the
OSEF, www.OSEF.org, in Tucson is a Knoppix-based live CD with programs for
kids and SkoleLinux, www.SkoleLinux.org, is another Knoppix-based live CD
that's being maintained and updated.
