Subject: Re: website with list of Linux printers?
The Samsung ML-1710 and ML-1740 are the updated versions of this
printer and use the 1430 driver or newer drivers designed for the
newer models. The newer models are available for about the the same
price (~$70-$90). I have had good luck getting it to work with a
variety of distros. Last time I checked the proprietary drivers
provided by samsung required old versions of system libraries but the
free ones work great. I am using a 1710 on FC2 now and it works
great. To make it even better I bought a toner refill kit on ebay for
about $3.50 per refill and it works great. So at this point paper is
the most expensive part of using the pringer. At least until the
cartrige can't be refilled any more and needs to be replaced.
