You probably should be looking for clues in /var/log/dmesg
and /var/log/messages
and I have always thought that you are supposed to use /dev/nst0 as
opposed to /dev/st0 because you have to force the thing to rewind the
tapes to the beginning - you couldn't rely on it rewinding to the
beginning of the tape
new tape?
