After too many months I decided to back up my user directory
(/home/holtzm) to tape. It's an ATAPI drive but I had to use SCSI
emulation to get it to work. This has worked well for a long time but I
haven't used it in quite a while.
[root@localhost home]# tar cvf /dev/st0 /holtzm
yields:
tar: /dev/st0: Cannot open: No such device
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
[root@localhost home]# ls -l /dev/st0
yields:
crw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 0 Apr 11 2002 /dev/st0
So my very own beloved computer is lying to me!!!
Does anyone have any words of advice, guidance or consolation?
Thanks in advance.
