Extended partitions should be fine. Some *BSDs may not have extended
partitions supported in their installers though.

In your other email you mentioned /boot partition. I would not use that
unless you have a old BIOS.

Also look for the FreeBSD+Linux dual-boot howto for some ideas.

Also, you can share the swap space between the BSD and Linux (be sure to
run mkswap before using each boot with Linux though).
