If I'm not on crack, that is the Xserver saying it couldn't communicate
with your hardware. Not in the hardware-is-dead sense, but in the
your-xservers-config-is-borked sense.
Does it get you back to a cmd line? Can you boot in single user, then
goto runlevel 3, and fire up X (startx)?
