mysql as user

I was thinking that I could put in kind of a ~/.fetchmailrc file for
mysql so that I don't have to pass user/password stuff on command line
or in scripts for commands like to mysqldump

I can't seem to find this info in man mysql or mysqld or mysqldump

Is this possible? What is the file supposed to be called?

I'm using mysql 3.23.58 if that matters (not 4.x)
