Don't know much about Guarddog except that you have confirmed that it is
the source of the firewall blocking communications.
Best to get a manual on Guarddog or figure it out.
Ping is not that important - it's port 2049 (TCP) for NFS I think.
If you can get that port open on both machines - at least for the
other's ip address, you have it made.
If you want zone named LAN:
network address: 192.168.0.0
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
broadcast address: 192.168.0.255
the above in CIDR: 192.168.0.0/24
If you want to specifically allow a single host:
ip address: 192.168.0.x
subnet mask: 255.255.255.255
the above in CIDR: 192.168.0.x/32
where x=100 or 101, in effect, the other machine
