I would add the mark command too.
at any line do m followed by a letter and you get a mark
then you can always go back to that mark by using the ' followed by that same
letter.
also you can use the goto mark ' to do command line thingies.
for instance open up a file and goto a line somewhere and type ma
goto another line further down and type mb
to goto the 'a' mark then just type 'a, similarly goto mark b by typing 'b
to yank the lines from mark a to mark b for instance you can do :'a,'b yank
etc.
I use this all the time and it is easy to remember.
