obviously he got it fixed last night - could tell by his later emails
ntpd is not for the faint hearted. The newer OS's have a widget for
setting it to a time server but if you are on a command line, I think a
simple ntpdate -q clock.redhat.com or other Strata 2 time server should
suffice.
Of course, (1) this is software timekeeping and the hwclock probably
should be updated as well and (2) you have to be ball park close for it
to work and 8 hours is gonna do massively ugly things to drift
