pluggers,
for the heck of it i tried running mplayer from command line and i
got a more detailed error:
i seem to be getting 2 different errors one of them harmless and one a
bit more harmful to the playback of the dvd.
mplayer dvd://2

BTW a lot of ppl want to know if dma is on so here is hdparm:
[root@localhost mikeaz_laptop]# /sbin/hdparm /dev/hda
/dev/hda:
multcount = 16 (on)
IO_support = 0 (default 16-bit)
unmaskirq = 0 (off)
using_dma = 1 (on)
keepsettings = 0 (off)
readonly = 0 (off)
readahead = 256 (on)
geometry = 65535/16/63, sectors = 60011642880, start = 0
[root@localhost mikeaz_laptop]#
ok it says in the error message that I should try -ni for avi files.
So I tried it.
mplayer dvd://2 -ni and got the same error
then i figured i typed it wrong: so tried
mplayer -ni dvd://2
it played longer but still gave the same error
Too Many Video Packets in the Buffer
Any suggestions?
